iowp working papers

IOWP The Imperium and Officium Working Papers present preliminary results of research currently undertaken by the Austrian National Research Network (NFN) ‘Imperium and Officium. Comparative Studies in Ancient Bureaucracy and Officialdom,’ an interdisciplinary platform uniting scholars of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Ancient History and Arabic Studies. It allows access to papers, articles, essays, book excerpts and chapters prior to their final publication. What are Working Papers and who are the authors? Working Papers are pre-publications of nearly completed or at least preliminary versions of forthcoming papers, articles, essays, book excerpts and chapters that will face another step of revision before being finally published in journals, conference proceedings and monographic studies. They should provide an insight into ongoing studies. All the authors are research associates within the Austrian National Research Network (NFN) ‘Imperium and Officium. Comparative Studies in Ancient Bureaucracy and Officialdom,’ located at the University of Vienna and funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) (http://imperiumofficium.univie.ac.at/). The NFN consists of six project parts that address the rise and development of administrative structures in the Ancient Near East and the Classical Mediterranean as well as Early Islamic World, thus covering the period from the first millennium BC to the first millennium AD. Comments and suggestions on papers can be sent to the author by email.
