Hackl, Johannes: Zur Funktion von (i)binna im Neu- und Spätbabylonischen (published)

Published in Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und vorderasiatische Archäologie 102 (2012): 100-114.
Abstract: The meaning and etymology of the imperative (i)binna (and its variants), frequently found in Neo- and Late Babylonian archival texts, has been debated extensively. This paper re-examines previous etymological interpretations and argues that the use of this form is not to be considered arbitrary; nor is it used as a synonym of the much more common form inna “give!”. Rather, it replaces the latter in those contexts in which the recipient is identical with the first person singular or plural.
