Appl, Marlies: Katalog der Evidenz zum Nyktostrategenamt. Version 01
Abstract: The Nyktostrategoi of Late Antique Egypt were police officials, who are found in papyri and inscriptions from the late second century until the early seventh century. They were mainly concerned with the processing of petitions, the search for runaway persons and the organisation of the city guard. This paper gives an overview of all the evidence published so far. It contains information about the provenance, the dating and the genre of each document as well as a German translation. Furthermore it provides a brief description of the content and a discussion of the main interpretation problems.
